Blizzard made huge mistake by making event community based with 40m goal and secret counter. Now every stupid person will think - and they are already saying that - nobody was playing but Blizzard will give out rewards anyway to hide low participation.

Its obviously nonsense. There are still probably many hundreds of thousands players playing.
Steam alone averages 9k players over past 30 days, and we know that game went to Steam months after release after it already sold well over 12M copies. Its possible there are still 500k-1M active players in D4 right now.

But it was still really stupid move, game does look dead and this community counter will only cause people to believe conspiracy theories. Bad move.

D4 is dead an buried

I jumped on hoping for a goblin massacre, and it was the complete opposite. Season has been dead for a couple of weeks already.

But is new content, isn't it ? Well not really new, but still.

D4 is dead, nobody's trading here or talking about it, poe2 just stole any hype left out of D4 and at this point, it's over bud, goodluck in 10 yrs when D5 gets released, I'm sure by then they'll maybe figure out how to allow trading, bring 8x player coop back that was achieved a quarter century ago.. this game is a failure and only the lowest common denominators think differently (that's you playing this mtx game called Diablo with no Diablo in it)

But.. the game is good it sold x number of copies.. 100M in advertising and high end CGI did a great job for sales, doesn't mean the games worth it, just means a lot of people are consumers with little cognitive activity and easily fooled by marketing techniques.

Just think in the future maybe if you spend another $100 you'll get Diablo in the game!

Despite how big of a flop PoE2 is? When it lost 90+% twitch viewership in just 3 days and is now strugling to remain relevant in top 5 on twitch? Despite the fact that game is bleeding 3-5% of players every day?

Compare it to D4 that was the second most watched game in twitch history (only after Elden Ring) in the first month after release and doubled its sales in first 2 months.
If PoE2 was actually good game, player numbers should be growing as many people who werent sure if they want to pay for EA would be convinced, but the opposite is true.

Streamers who came from D4 have MUCH worse numbers than they had in D4 S5 and nowhere near what was in S6 & VoH release. And even those who came from PoE1 are barely able to keep ordinary PoE1 numbers.
Come next D4 season, streamers will return to D4 and they will see 10-20x viewers and stay there. They will give PoE2 maybe like 2-3 weeks at the end of D4 season cycle.

Like the only way how PoE2 could have been a real threat to and real competitor to D4 was if it increased playerbase 10x compared to PoE1. I was hoping that GGG will make right moves to move game more to mainstream (better compaign, story, graphics, cinematics etc.) but since they refused to do that and game looks so bad and cinematics as if the were made in 1990s the game was never any real threat to D4 dominance and will only remain game for small community of players.
Extremely toxic and loud community that makes it look like they are the only players that exist, but thats simply not true.
