I have a growing interest in the topic. If there is any required reads or starting points you guys would like to share, please feel free to do so.

What is the actual challenge in artificial intelligence today?

Fuzzy logic on the 3s principle.
A circuit right now is either "on" or "off" either 1 or 0.

The way that the human neuron fires is 1 or 0 or both, we can build complex algorithms to simulate a human capacity for reason and communication but until we can establish a method to program a computer that programs itself via quanta, no Siri will have AI, like our AI.

Watch BBC' horizon's Human V2.0

It'll happen much sooner that mankind can integrate our consciousness into computers, then it'll be impossible to distinguish until it's too late.

As far as I understand, Siri is doing nothing more than choosing an appropriate response based on what you said to it. And the responses are pre-determined. Is this correct?

/edit

Thanks for the suggestion and vid. I will watch when I am not at work. :P

More or less this is correct.
Algorithm is just a fancy way of saying math equations.

Imagine traditional programming like a strategy game, chess.
You have just if, than, else, else if statements.

Example :

Siri functions more or less like this. To simulate a more complex if than statement, Apple has taken to random number generators. If, else RNG > 50, then. For instance.

A fun piece of research that may being implying that along the rigid plane of causation within this cause & effect of 0 & 1 is a human spirit manipulation factor.
One that'll probably never be captured.
This "magic" RNG is described when a group of scientists set up a series of independent RNGs around the world then reported the patterns each day.
Events like 9/11 caused strong fluctuations in the totally independent RNG which makes it appear that collectively mankind can impose electrical energy on a 0, 1 circuit.

This is important because to me it shows that not even our own AI is independent like we fool ourselves into believing, since most important discoveries around the world happen simultaneously without collaboration.
History channel intentionally calls this aliens in order reduce what we perceive ourselves to be to cattle. <_<

I bet it wouldn't be too much to get a really decent AI out of the internet as a whole with semiconductors all over. Turn the RNGesus "access" points into Geiger counters.

still in the early days of A.I. work so it's kind of a grey area where robotic programmed response mixes with a bit of understanding on siris part.

the real issue is we can't really understand ourselves enough to give a machine even something as mundane as common sense.

Ai will always be limited if it's used on binary computers, Quantum computing is very different, not much is known about it because it's so top secret, but it is theorized to already exist.

Completely neglected by mainstream media is not the same thing as top secret, it's worse because no one seeks out neglected info.
At least when something is under lock and key our people's prying eyes have incentive to dig it out.
The powers that be are desperately clinging to the current ignorance paradigm because a whole (64, bit) array of new technology is on the cusp of obsoleting all governmental structure.

All research is funded by university alumni or government and university alumni have all been perverted by their fraternities.

1. No one is paid to debunk shitty old science
&
2. No one is funded in science that doesn't depend on their new world order

"Hey hey, ho ho, there will never be a nigger in SAE"

Plenty of fine articles/videos on the subject.
