As far as I understand, Siri is doing nothing more than choosing an appropriate response based on what you said to it. And the responses are pre-determined. Is this correct?

Thanks for the suggestion and vid. I will watch when I am not at work. :P
More or less this is correct.
Algorithm is just a fancy way of saying math equations.
Imagine traditional programming like a strategy game, chess.
You have just if, than, else, else if statements.
Example :

Siri functions more or less like this. To simulate a more complex if than statement, Apple has taken to random number generators. If, else RNG > 50, then. For instance.
A fun piece of research that may being implying that along the rigid plane of causation within this cause & effect of 0 & 1 is a human spirit manipulation factor.
One that'll probably never be captured.
This "magic" RNG is described when a group of scientists set up a series of independent RNGs around the world then reported the patterns each day.
Events like 9/11 caused strong fluctuations in the totally independent RNG which makes it appear that collectively mankind can impose electrical energy on a 0, 1 circuit.
This is important because to me it shows that not even our own AI is independent like we fool ourselves into believing, since most important discoveries around the world happen simultaneously without collaboration.
History channel intentionally calls this aliens in order reduce what we perceive ourselves to be to cattle.

I bet it wouldn't be too much to get a really decent AI out of the internet as a whole with semiconductors all over. Turn the RNGesus "access" points into Geiger counters.
