Gravitational waves have been detected for the first time.

this measurement is a proof of black holes, and holds much promise for future of astrophysics

i dont really understand the significance of this in the sense of how we can use this information?

and i thought black holes were accepted as existing already?

That Eisenstein was correct about gravity being a fluctuating wave and not a constant force, That Gravity is not in all objects, that it is the glue that holds us in the space-time continuum. Something like that...

this. Just a confirmation on what was already clearly obvious. No one is going to make a better mousetrap (in the foreseeable future) because of this result.

that's not true. being able to detect gravitational waves can be applied to the study of dark matter which is a mostly unproven yet considered a large part of the universe. As for building a better mouse trap, being able to acquire signal from gravitational waves has potential applications. it can theoretically be used for communication similar to the concept with neutrinos.

this discovery will likely receive the nobel prize this year

Why in hell would you use a gravitational wave for communication, when you can just use a radio wave instead?

dark matter which is a mostly unproven

Is that like being mostly pregnant? Anyway, science doesn't prove things.

radio waves can not pass through planets or thick objects, and because of their long wavelengths have a fundamental limitation on data transfer and acquisition.

right because using a 8 kilometer antenna to get a couple bits of information from one of the most energetic events known is going to be sooooo much better than a walkie talkie...

Are you actually saying 2 x 4 km long laser's and a load of the the newest updated electronic components are no better than an antenna on a walkie talkie? Um ok.
And gravitational waves are not simply energy, they are something completely different, do you even understand anything?

Not what I said at all

Who said that?
