I like seeing rockets in action. I also like learning about the past, present, and future applications of rockets. I mostly just think they are really cool ^-^

Thought I'd start a topic about rockets where people can share rocket related stuff.

I'll start with this video of Blue Origin's historic landing test that occurred last month.

They have set a new record for the highest successful vertical take off and landing on earth. 329,839 feet (the edge of space).
The above video is an excerpt of a longer video you can view here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pillaOxGCo

One of my old clients was the guy who did all the rockets for the movie October Sky. Really cool guy. He has a ton of rocket-powered stuff in his house, from dragsters to lawn mowers. A bunch of NASA memorabilia, as well. Awesome stuff.

At my uni they've just started a team working on a 'eco-friendly' jet. As in hydrogen fueled, hydrogen generated by electrolysis which is powered by solar.

This is still one of my favourite videos of a rocket/jet engine:

SpaceX has successfully landed the first stage of their Falcon 9 rocket. This is a historical moment. This is significantly more challenging than the vertical landings done by Blue Origin because the Falcon 9 rocket is heavier and travels at much faster speeds. For 50 years we have been dumping expensive rocket boosters into the ocean where they get ruined by salt water. This event marks a major milestone in reusability and should make space launches much less expensive.

This video is just a 12 second clip showing a helicopters view of the landing.

For a fuller video, there is a 45 minute webcast of the launch, landing, and satellite delivery: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5bTbVbe4e4

New SpaxeX Falcon 9 launch and landing attempt tomorrow Jan. 17 at 1:42 p.m. ET (10:42 a.m. PT). SpaceX is going to try landing a Falcon 9 on a floating platform out in the ocean. They have tried this twice before but the rocket tipped over and exploded on the platform in the final moments. If they can land this one, it will be another impressive historical moment.
