There were four: Sweet, Sour, Salty, and Bitter.

Fat, has joined the group. Now there are 5!

"It’s called oleogustus, and it’s the unique taste of fat, says Richard D. Mattes, distinguished professor of nutrition science at Purdue University and one of the authors of the study. “I can’t use any words that exist, so we’re forced to make it up,” Mattes says. (The Latin translation of oily or fatty taste is “oleogustus.”)"

There was "umami" also, that is the Japanese for "delicious"
At least that's what I've heard once during a lecture
So it makes 6 tastes now!

E/ after checking it's more like "tasteful" than "delicious" if we wanna be rigorous

E/e/ oh it's mentioned in your article aswell, next time I'll read things first... Sorry for my useless post :(

I looked that up, yes its a taste, but I think its only official in Asia. The U.S. only recognizes 5 I believe.

Then they are just limiting themselves. Enough food in America has umami taste to it. Nearly every American has had this taste too since ketchup also has it.

Almost the same as the fat thing.
