i think i may disagree with this, i also have no real "scientific data" on the topic, but i have been surprised several times throughout my life by psychopathic behavior, I think if their eyes were as obvious of a warning as you say i shouldn't ever be surprised because i should see the "psycho" in their eyes, i would agree that many cases of "psychopaths" do seem to have "strange eyes that see into your soul", but many do not, so i would not say there is any tangible correlation between eyes and mentality (at least not in any diagnosable way)
e: i actually have been told i have the eyes of a psychopath myself, and i get squeamish just passing roadkill on the road
their pupil reaction is far from normal. why is that so? their strong urge for power, sex and control is associated with excessive levels of testosterone. excessive levels of testosterone make your stress hormones such as cortisol less effective. why is that so? testosterone and cortisol share the same receptor. excessive levels of testosterone interfers with cortisol effectively binding to its receptor to have an effect. sudden release of cortisol and cortisol binding to its receptors switches our sympathetic nervous system on (fight/flight). a strongly switched on sympathetic nervous system immediately widens our pupils. hence if psychopaths are challenged, tried to be shocked, brought into a frightening situation their pupils expand less.
you cannot determine a psychopath by his/her pupil size but sometimes it's helpful to look at the situation they are in and how their pupil size responds to it. of course this is not a 100% reliable test because their other conditions, other than psychopathy that are associated with an abnormal pupil response.
if you truely and effectively want to identify a psychopath you have to take a lot of different factors into consideration and the pupil response is only one of a multitude of factors.
