Can I get a phone w/ a camera / skype / archived texting for like 50 bucks?

I'm with AT&T near chicago.

check craigslist and always contact ATT before you purchase a used phone to make sure its not stolen and therefore locked and useless to you.

androids and windows 7.5 phones should have plenty of options in that price range.

Phone prices are too damn high

yeah its actually quite rediculous that a normal phone price brand new is 400-800 dollars. Its very sad

Should be able to get an upgrade for cheap if your on a contract and havn't gotten one for a while. You could also look into changing providers and getting a deal on a phone for signing a ~2 year contract.

I've had a contract for a while, but it's a family plan, and my mother and I are estranged.

Would I be able to walk in and buy a phone and put my sim card in it from my crap flip phone?

smart phones have mandatory data plans starting at $40 i believe.

My sister regularly trashes her nokia lumia and goes and buys another one.

I'm assuming we've already got a data plan on our family deal?

I have no way to find out anything. I just want to walk in there and buy a phone with a camera and better texting.

you may have shared data but i think you still need the account holder to authorize new smartphones on the data plan.
