I think you're right about the type of life you have lived dictating whether you go to 'heaven', 'hell', or, more likely, somewhere in between.
I do not believe DMT is the cause of this.
Basically, I believe the spirit goes where it wants when the body dies. People who identify with violence and other evil things will go to their 'hell', while someone who has lived a virtuous life will go somewhere else.
I believe that a sufficiently nurtured soul can return in another body. This is not necessarily easy to achieve.
To me, the concepts of hell and heaven as being a permanent state seems like hogwash.
