Hope this is as simple as it appears, which is unlikely, what are the odds of so many powerful people allowing one company to take over the whole power industry.

Why is it unlikely? This is Lockheed Martin Skunk Works, they have delivered Incredible Revolutionary Technology time and time again. Truth be told Nuclear Fission is an incredibly simple process, doing it safely is the difficult part. The race for Fusion has been decades in the making. glad to see solid progress at last.

As far the illuminati type worry, Think big picture. Once the Technology is proven and useable, they will Sell the Reactors along with a hefty maintenance agreement to existing utilities and Independent Power producers who already have Combustion turbines embedded in the Electrical Grid.

Big Oil and Big Gas won't be happy about it, but this is the logical move for emissions reduction and they will have to keep up or fall to the side of the road like the horse drawn carriage industry when Trains then Automobiles were developed.

I am just a terrible cynic and believe that most conglomerates are in cahoots, I would be surprised if Lockheed do not have interests in the energy sector. Of course the fact is oil and gas is finite and will have to be replaced at some point, but likely when the cash cow is really dried up.

Fresh article on this, experts sceptical of Lockheed's 'breakthrough',
