Interesting read I spotted on my yahoo homepage

https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/most-earths-species-destroyed-giant-220539502.html

Would be pleasantly ironic if the 6th mass extinction went down this way. Humans in general think we are oh so intelligent, so intelligent we in fact kill ourselves. Ego much?

not really news
biodiversity has been in steady decline for many decades

I know, figured I should mention something. Maybe spark a conversation, or something.

Pointless article was pointless.

Intelligent people realize we have unsustainable population growth...too bad all the dumb people get a say to.

The fact we can facilitate such a catastrophic event proves how intelligent and strong we are. For a species to hold the life of an entire planet in its hands is a pretty amazing accomplishment.

We are limited by our technology for now and to say our path is linear is just ignorant. Space colonization is our next step and once we have a power source that makes it feasible our path as a species will change vastly.

Until then we simply have to deal with the problems the stupid majority on this planet cause.

The odds of something like this causing us to go extinct is pretty much slim to nil. A massive population decline sure but we're resourceful enough to survive a massive loss of other species/plant life even if it means large chunk of our population dies.

How are we going to terraform another planet when we can't even keep our abundant one thriving?

Its natural that humans end up killing weaker species...
Thats how life works... U think t rex wasnt responsibe for the extinction of other dinosaurs?

As for global warming... I've seen a few documentaries stating that we r actually in a stage of getting out of ice age, so higher temperatures r nothing too unexpenced.

Life on earth has been addapting to so many sever changes.. I think the rising o the oceans with a few meters and the climate change that will come with it, will have a mich bigger impact on us rather than other animals...

Also, im more afraid of yellow stone volcano erupting than what i read on that article. Btw, yahoo news always hypes things up for publicity...

Because we won't be sending a bunch of stupid people to build new colonies.

The main issue with our species is that it is capable of producing Einstein and Paris Hilton

The upcoming generations are going to have a lot of problems we and our previous two-three generations caused, but I don't think humans will go extinct even with a nuclear holocaust.

Words my professor had said once: humans may face severe population drops, yes, our population growth is not exactly sustainable... but, even as varied as each person can be from strong to weak, smart to questionable, collectively as species, we are too stubborn to die off.
