its a bit of a hike up the beach to get to the the creek/ferns but that's part of what makes it so pristine. clothing is optional up there.

Try out Death Valley National Park. There aren't many trees but it's still a beautiful place. Nice campgrounds, visitor center, and there's even a pool which is nice in the summer. But there's plenty of hikes and things to see besides the obvious "lowest point". For example there's a nearby creek where you can see the endangered Death Valley pupfish, the last surviving fish left from the huge lake that used to fill the valley. Other cool places include Zabriskie Point, Devil's Golf Course, the Racetrack, and Artist's Drive. If you don't mind a rough hike try Ubehebe Crater. And if you want to look down on it all from an adjacent 5000 foot mountain, try Dante's View.

The absolute best place for hiking I've ever come across would be Muir Woods north of San Francisco. Breathtakingly beautiful and serene.

There are also some really picturesque places to hike along the north shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota. Lots of great places between Two Harbors and Grand Marais.

The Wichita Mountains (S.E. Oklahoma)
I am a little partial to this area because it's relatively close by and hike there every couple weeks ;)

Huge granite boulder fields the size of houses

(A lot of great climbing spots if you are into that)

It's also a wild life sanctuary and there are a fair number of bison and elk herds running around.

It's really a nice hidden gem
