So apparently Titan has 100x more oil than the Earth. Question is, will we even need the oil by the time we have the technology to even colonize/harvest the moon?

Would you want to live on Titan and have Jupiter in the sky at all times when you look up? :) I think I would.

Oil isn't particularly "needed" as an energy source, it's just a convenient crutch. So I say no :P

Plus from an environmental standpoint, it's not advisable to take a bunch of carbon off another world and put it on our own. That'll really get the global warming going.

Worse, a quick calculation shows you would need to burn about 10 units of gasoline to get the MINIMUM energy required to lift 1 unit of gasoline off Titan using an idealized launch system. Any real system would probably require several times as much.

while oil contains a lot of hydrocarbons, oil =/= hydrocarbon
but you will need to use a lot of the hydrocarbons to keep warm in your house on titan ;)

Titan will be a great fuel station for space shuttles in the future.

Or get yourself a long enough pipe and suck it dry imo

I'd bet on human civilization dying out first.

that was essentially what my calculation was for, for a lowest power lifting of the material.

either way its going to be worth it once oil becomes only useful for women to wrestle in.

wouldn't gravity and the siphon effect cause it to just flow freely towards earth?
