So I've been looking into getting some more phones, and I'm wondering if anyone has some input on which are better for whatever reasons, if you have one how you like it, etc.

The choices are (and why I would want it, why not)

iPhone 5 : Well, it's an iPhone. Pretty fast I guess, will last long, and has a great resell value whenever I'm done with it are the main reasons I may want to get it. However, it's my understanding that the Apple app store is kind of limited compared to Android (idk if this is true). Also, it's not open source, and as I'm studying Computer Science, I think it'd be nice to have an open source OS to mess around with or w/e.

Sony Xperia ZL 4G : 1.5ghz quadcore snapdragon (supposed to be cutting edge, I think?) 1920x1080 resolution, 5 inch screen. Seems like a solid phone. It's android, so that's a plus.

HTC One : 1.5 ghz quadcore, 32gb integrated memory, no sd slot, non-removable battery.

All of them would be $200 with a 2-year contract, which is what I usually do anyway. I've had really bad luck with my current phone, samsung exhibit 4g. The screen has broken a few times (not physically broken, like cracked, but something inside is wrong and it just doesn't work, does stuff one its own without me pressing stuff) and is still broken, just stops working sometimes. It cost me $50 with a 2yr contract, so I'm spending a bit more this time to hopefully get a better quality phone.

If anyone has any suggestions or information, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks!

/e Right now, I'm leaning towards the Xperia, then the iPhone, then the HTC.

Xperia > iPhone > HTC

I don't really care about the pros, as I imagine they all have certain things they're best at, so if you know of any cons for each phone, that'd be great.

Also, I primarily will be watching movies off the memory (not streaming) and listening to music. Maybe playing some games.

Not an option =/

I'm doing a 2yr contract and these are the top 3 phones I'm interested in through my provider.

/e

Upon doing more research I'm thinking HTC One > Sony Xperia ZL
It seems to be the better phone, except for having a slightly smaller screen (.3 in difference) and no SD slot (32 GB onboard, 26GB usable)

i'd go with the Sony or the HTC. Which ever has higher Pixel density (PPI) and longest battery life.

If you don't mind a big phone:
LG G2 if you want to root (best hardware/battery)
HTC One if you don't (early 2013 flagship specs/top design/decent UI)

If you want something more usable (with 1 hand):
iPhone 5s
Moto X

Personally, I'd grab an HTC One or wait for the nexus 5

e/ also ppi lol? you're talking about 720/1080p on 4-5 inch screens, there are much more important things than ppi

Honestly no real difference between GS4 and HTC One in terms of battery performance when you are actually USING the phone. From what I've read the HTC One is plagued with battery issues.

In response to the 'limited Apple app store' that's not true, it's just more restricted and filtered than Google Play.

A phone is a personal preference, there is no right or wrong answer. Get what you think will suit your personal needs the best, think about how you'll feel with that same device after 1 1/2 - 2 years.
