I've always been interested in survival and nature. One of my biggest idles is Les Stroud. He's the most realistic one on tv.
If anyone else is interested in this and has any stories to tell about it that would be awesome =]

I plan on doing something like "into the wild"

to be honest les stroud while the most realistic...does not reflect even a portion of how bad it is.

they don't show the hours of pain because you can't find food for example.

minimalist camping is one thing...going to try to survive just to do is dumb though. go learn how to do it but don't rely on it. make your own shelter...sleep in a tent. forage for food...bring food with you.

try starting a fire without matches...bring something to light it with

take some plant identification books with you to pass the time and learn which plants are useful and which to avoid. don't eat any mushrooms no matter how sure you are...this is something left to a very experienced person to teach so don't rely on books for it.

great advice for sure. little tip ..oranges are great when you camping, if you cut them in half you have two bowls...can cook a egg in 1 half..

it used to be easy to survive if you boil water and know how to trap..but we are poisoning everything and killing all the game. Now we count on that grocery store...Dependant on others like a slave..Do you not see how Dependant we are on others now? They own us

i love les stroud. and i dont agree on what sub has to say. he does show the hardships that can come along with it. id admit not all of it bc its an hour long. but he does let you feel the pain hes going though. some people will say hes just being a bitch while bear grylls is a bad ass. NO everything that bear does is exactly what you dont want to do in a survival situation. while stranded by yourself you dont want to risk jumping down a little cliff or the other shit he does. its just plain silly. break an ankle and youre dead. les is pretty damn informative and lets you know the precautions to take

if i show you a fraction of something and you are basing something as dangerous as survival on it...you are being an idiot.

don't go out trying to do what he does because you think its cool...its not. survival is hard, painful, and very dangerous.

he does that show to be informative in case you end up in that situation...not because he wants you to put yourself in that situation.

i understand that completely. but if i find myself in a survival situation. i would not want to look back on things bear does and say. hey i can try that to get myself out of here. the average person isnt a former navy seal and as in good a shape as bear.

as far as im concerned bear grylls is an entertainer on his show thats about it. he does shit for shock and awe like instead of going....if you are walking on frozen water be damn sure you check where you are stepping...he jumps in said frozen water and then pretends like in that situation any normal person has a chance in hell of recovering from it.

he's the kind of person that causes people to end up in these situations...overconfidence in the wilderness is a good way to die.

I once lived in the woods for 7 days. It was horrible and it rained. Since then I have rented apartments and ate mcdonalds.
