What a baller. Got to see him speak at my school. Funny guy, everything he said was entertaining and it was cool because he wasn't promoting a book or show or anything, it was literally him taking about "things we should know".

His general theme was that if we don't start funding science and education more in the US then we are going to fizzle as a world power.

Hes a great mind but much of what he says is too basic and some of it true broscience.
Great for people starting to think

For example science has become a global thing, and not just 1 country

That "global thing" consists of a coalition of individual countries all contributing.

The discussion needs to be country-oriented in light of the hostility towards science in our politics. Federal funding towards research and scientific endeavors can dry up very quickly, especially in these times. Promoting science to constituents is a form of fundraising both the local and global level.

Also, he's an ambassador and advocate for science to an often unreceptive and sadly dubious public. His methodology may not be overly technical but the overal message is on point. It's a bit like how Sagan was, a scientist and a brilliant story teller who can convey cold processes in a way which captures peoples attention and imagination.

Much of it is his own opinion, what he thinks it to be.
I know this cause I do the same. Its a great talk indeed, and great to get you thinking, but very basic in terms of where he goes with it, doesnt really elaborates it down to the details.
Im not saying its bad, im saying its good, but theres a lot more to it. Nevertheless just disregard what Im saying, its not important ^^

He is a smart man and has a great personality. I can think of no other Astronomer that I have as much respect for other than Carl Sagan (R.I.P)

But I agree. The USA is becoming an ignorant country. We need to take a proactive stance on education or every child in this country will turn into gangsters and drug addicts before long. It is sad how dumbed down this country has gotten. I will be the first to admit. I had a late start. my parents never cared and I did not commit to my education like I should have. It set me behind years. Luckily thanks to a few influential people in my life, I turned it all around. I am thankful for that.

Cutting education and science just because brain dead drug abused liberals (Democrats) and inbred back woods rednecks (Republicans) can not over come there own idealogical differences is sad. In the end we all lose as a nation.
