Do you need to have a connection going in from a land line and ethernet? (rj11 + rj45 | wall to unit)
Or can you just use an Ethernet connection? (rj45 | wall to unit)

Of course an rj11 needs to come out from the unit to the telephone receiver.

I've been thinking of getting a couple home phones to use with skype when I'm at home and away from the computer. Or if I am doing something and don't want to get my tablet dirty.
Anyone have or use a USB -> telephone device?
I have no experience with one yet.

thanks for reading!

I'm totally confused about what you are trying to do. You said USB to RJ11, but then talk about RJ11 to RJ45 and ethernet. If you are just trying to plug a regular home phone into your computer through USB, you'd need some sort of an analog/digital converter.
Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/SF-Cable-RJ11-RS422-Converter/dp/B004QBAAAY

I'm not sure where RJ45 and ethernet comes in, though.

Skype calls require an internet connection. If you think you can manage Skype through dial up, then I guess you could try that.

Maybe i typed my question in a sloppy fashion.

I was asking if you needed both a landline AND ethernet for skype on a homephone.
I've never used a home phone over ethernet device before.

on the specs that I've read, it says you need "landline, ethernet", there is no AND/OR there on any of them. -.-;
