the two postulates of special relativity are:
1. All inertial observers will agree on the laws of physics.
2. All inertial observers will agree on the speed of light.
An inertial observer is someone who is not accelerating.
With these two postulates, some high school geometry, and some clever arguments; you can derive most of the weird stuff about special reality yourself, including time dilation.
