First off, at the moment I am open to spritual beings etc. I like the idea they exsist and it's not a trick my mind is playing.
That kind of contradicts with science and I try and be a rational, aswell as big fan of Richard Dawkins and Lawrence Krauss.

Some people see ghosts and others lie about it, I know.
But I have seen a ghost before about 6 years ago. Clearly a ghost, for a good 3-4 seconds me and a freind stared at it.
I've heard if you think ghosts are real and you're scared or whatever, your mind can make a hallucination of a ghost, however, why did me and my freind see the same thing?

My mums side of the family have just about ALL seen a ghost or somthing out of the ordinary. My dad dosen't believe (even after seeing what my mum, sisters and brother saw which was a pure glowing shape of a man that dissapeared, reappeared and dissapeared again in the mist) in them and his family don't speak to us.
I'm telling you this because I have a freind who makes a living off readings, and whatever else psychics who has written books on all the ghost stuff and he said the ability to see and interact with spirits is passed down through family. He also said it's suppressed by fear and gets better as you get older. I've seen one ghost, my little brother hasn't seen and and my mum has seen a good few things, like 4-5 which backs up the age thing AND the family connection.

The psychic I know said he see's ghosts quite often and if I've seen one before, I should be able to summon it and it show itself to me again.
I've told him I want him to come to where I saw it and try summon it to proove to my what I saw and we're meant to do a quija board but haven't got round to it yet.



TL;DR

I've seen a ghost, why?
Do they exsist or is there a scientific explanation?

MY MIND ABOUT WHAT I SAW:

If it was real, I want to see another ghost to proove it.
If I don't see another ghost, how can I belive it was real?
If it was my mind playing tricks, why did my freind see the same thing?

Try to think of it this way.

For something to exist, it has to be there. When something is there, it can't not be there.

So if ghosts were to exist, they'd have to ALWAYS be there.

And I doubt that ghosts have the power to turn invisible or trick us into thinking they're not there.

Just my two cents.

Also, maybe what you saw wasn't a "mind trick" but maybe just light glimmering off something in a particular way, or something of the sort.

I agree totally with the bolded part which is why I'm trying to understand.
I said the the guy that and he said they are always there, which is why some people FEEL them even if they don't see them.
My sister has been touched multiple times... That sounds wrong. But like at the farm on her own, she felt someone put their hand in like, on her head/in her hair or somthing.

What I was was no kind of light or anything shining. It was a girl, in a dress. In the middle of the parrallel train tracks. She was ALL grey, just shades of grey which made her a girl in a dress instead of just a shillouette (forgive my spelling for that damn work) She walked about 5 meters (for about 3-4 seconds) towards me and my freind and dissapeared. NO she did not move to any of the sides into the trees or anything, people have asked me that. Completely dissapeared so me and my freind ran about a mile to the shops near our home.

Basically, what I saw was a ghost. Nothing that I saw wrongly and misconceived as a ghost, it was what it was.
My problem is finding out if ghosts are real or it would have to be my mind which should have a scientific explaintion.

I'm kind of doing my own research, if the psychic I know can't make me see/experience another spiritual being/ghost then I'll look into the tricks of the mind/hallucinations.

There have been like 185 episodes of Ghost Hunters and 55 of Ghost Hunters International. If ghosts were real, don't you think they would have found conclusive evidence by now and then used it in order to advertise the show more? Because a "Holy shit ghosts are real, here's concrete proof at 8pm on SyFy" promo would probably get some pretty good ratings.

I MYSELF have seen a ghost with my owns eyes.
What more proof do you need when you've seen one?

I want to know what the scientific explanation for seeing a ghost is for example hallucination, rather than it just being a ghost.

Human minds are very flawed. Our primitive animal brain jumps to conclusions when we see something we can't immediately explain, oftentimes before we're even conscious of the very fact that we don't understand it. That's why the scientific process is so rigorous and so open to peer review.

I don't know what you saw because I wasn't there, and to be honest you don't really know what you saw either. You think it may have been a ghost, but that's only a guess.

...when gases seep from the ground they can reflect available light sources depending on certain conditions . Any reflected image appears wispy and quickly vanishes as the gas disperses giving the illusion of a " ghost " .

i believe in the supernatural, i have been part of a few investigations with unexplained stuff has happened, not to mention the evps that were captured. I like when there is an intelligent haunting.

I thinkbentherdonethat hit the bullseye on that one. We as a civilization in the modern era have been influenced so much by the media and we don't even know it. So when we see a phenomenon that cannot be explained, our brains quickly try to assess the situation by coming up with the most logical reasoning to explain the strange into something familiar. As demonstrated by various movies and shows throughout the ages depicting strange unexplainable phenomenon as ghosts and the paranormal.
