In high school biology class, we were taught that dwarfism was caused by having double recessive alleles. If this were true, I don't understand how 2 dwarfs who reproduced with each other. Upon further investigation, I realized it's more complicated than what we were taught in high school and in fact there seem to be multiple causes of dwarfism. If there is someone out there who does understand this stuff, could you help me out with this question plz:

Is there any genetic condition + combination of parents that would result in 100% of the offspring having dwarfism?

Possibly. Aren't there well over a hundred types of dwarfism?

dwarfism is caused by a... (mutant may be a strong word) genetic trait, often expressed when it's pair is also a recessive trait (though not necessarily another dwarfism gene.)

however, both parents having said recessive traits often leads to a fetus/child that is incompatible with life (aka: stillborn or extremely sickly and short in lifespan)

If two people who have dwarfism caused by recessive genes, all of theri children will have dwarfism.


Achondroplasia is dominant. TT = death, Tt = dwarf, tt = normal. so two people with achondroplasia have a 25% to have a normal child, 50% dwarfed child, and 25% to have a child incompatible with life.


There is also chance that a new mutation can occur, thus anyone has a chance to have a child with achondroplasia/dwarfism.
