So what is a guy like me to do? I am a registered Republican (Liberals please keep the personal attacks and opinions to yourself and stay on topic) but at the same time I am agnostic. Sound like an oxymoron? So it may seem. I am not overly politically active and my views are broad and I consider myself to be center right altho in most local (state level) and national elections I vote republican or third party. So here is my problem. In this new age of political tensions within the USA and with the rise of both liberal movements (such as gay rights groups, anti capitalism groups etc) and conservative movements such as the tea party, I find myself stuck in the middle and an outcast of both sides with no true voice or power. My main issue is on the right, I get shunned for not being christian and sometimes very rudely as extreme right wingers tend to frown upon and disenfranchise those who are not. On the other side of the fence, I am rejected for my views on gay marriage and many other conservative social stances that I embrace. Socially you would think I am a hardened republican altho not christian and economically you would think me as more liberal as I indeed frown upon big corporate capitalism and the destruction it has imposed upon me and my country in the last decade. So how am I to affiliate myself and have my voice heard when in all honesty I am not republican nor democrat but more of an independent. But back to the root of the problem, Why does my religious views cause me to be persecuted among the people that I feel I share the most common ground with? And what can I do to overcome this form of............ oh boy about to sound like a liberal........... Discrimination!?!?!

The reason I post this here is because I am looking for an open and logical explanation. If I post this is the political section, All i would get is bias party affiliated propaganda. I find the more educated scientific opinions are always more deeply motivating to me and far more meaningful than political rants and hate.

You're not the only person who doesn't perfectly conform to one of the two dominant political parties.
I have the same problem... even just choosing the 3 stances that are the most important to me, I can't find a single party (including 3rd parties) that matches on all 3 of them...
Never mind trying to match on everything -,-

Just pick who you agree with the most and run with that... nothing else you can really do about it.

So wait, you don't want gay people to be able to get married and yet you don't believe in God? So then that's just pure bigotry with no religious shield for you to hide behind? Being pro-life I can understand because you can have a secular reason for that, but being opposed to marriage equality? That's just ludicrous.

I guess you're screwed. You'll probably never identify with either major political party, and just have to vote republican even though they all will hate you as the GOP goes farther and farther off the deep end toward pandering to the Religious Right.

Edit: This isn't science, technology, or nature. You probably meant to post this in Politics and Religious Discussion.

From my point of view, you can either just deal with the discrimination and hope it improves or just take part in the christian rituals to become closer to ones you care about. If religious views aren't drastically important to you, you might consider just taking on arbitrary ones for the sake of building relationships.

As for political views, democracy is a about compromise, and some compromise a lot more than others.

As for the discrimination, tolerance is a hard lesson that takes years for people to learn and only through life experiences. Personally, I'm hoping that one day they can just look up to you as a role model for the good that you do and put their religious bias aside. That said, you should do your part to be a role model, whichever way you choose.

holy shit you are an uneducated dumb ass. wow never have I seen such a retarded statement and personal attack in my life. My reason for not supporting gay marriage is the NATURAL ORDER OF LIFE. All animals know that Male = female is the only natural method of reproduction and the only physical way to start a family. Besides, Who the hell said that only christians can have conservative views you brain dead liberal. You just made it 100% clear to everyone why out of everything in my post, I never 1 time mentioned I would ever vote as a liberal. It is because liberals are far more 2 faced and biggots than conservatives. Bitch and cry at anyone and everyone who stands in your way or does not agree with your life style and then flame them, brand them harsh stereotypes, and cry about it in public. Typical Liberal. Yes I would rather align myself with christians who want nothing to do with me than a bunch if cry baby college kids who are gay and attack anyone and everyone who does not pander to there little childish temper tantrums. It is a shame because I know many center left denmocrats that are not nearly as ignorant as you but in the end I would rather side with christians that hate me than to go to a rally with a bunch of gay libs and get attacked for not wanting a gay guy to hug and touch me.

lmfao.

marriage is part of the natural order? are you serious right now?

your argument only applies to homosexual sex and your problem there is because they can't make a baby? so you are also against birth control and sex for pleasure? because sex for pleasure is part of the natural order.

which brings me back to your silly argument that if its part of the natural order it must be right. so you think sex for pleasure is right but sex for pleasure with the same sex is wrong even when they both have nothing to do with procreation?

makes sense.

PS

homosexuality is part of the natural order. lots of animal species have well documented homosexual behaviors.

PPS

this is why republicans hide behind religion and not "the natural order". if you aren't religious you should have no logical problem with homosexuality. which means you have a problem with it for illogical reasons.
