30 healthy babies were born after a series of experiments, two of the babies have been tested and have been found to contain genes from three 'parents'. Two women and one man.

What I find most fascinating with this process is the immediate uptake of foreign DNA into the already existing compositions.

It's really extrodinary, but I feel the risk of mutations that will affect the individual to be greatly increased.

DNA already stuggles on a second to second basis to maintain its integrity. Such a project puts that very process to the grind stone.

While I'm not overly concerned with the ethics at this juncture, I do feel the risk of alienating the project through this loose method of tampering to be extreme in the broad sense of the word.

EDIT: I should clarify that I am aware of many instances of foreign DNA being integrated into existing genomes. I am merely expressing fascination that it happens so readily in the Oocyte without a large presence of enzymes/proteins to perform the action.

We need to spend more money researching fertility treatments to combat the global underpopulation problem.

^^

e: as to this topic, well first of all article has no sources, which bugs me. Secondly, the main ethical problem in question is the risk of complications. I'm no expert, but i have a sensation that chances of said things occurring are not unsubstantial.
