The "Solution" is to realize that there will be some level of piracy but that on the whole, most consumers want to do the right thing and purchase the things that they use. Avoiding odious copyright schemes and creating quality products that engender customer loyalty is a better method than anything, really.

Things like ultra-violet digital copies are great for movies and TV shows.

Blizzard's model for anti-piracy also works extremely well (see SC2).

For things that require licenses:
Stop 'generators' from producing working keys.
Safeguard working keys from being accessed.

As for music/movies, there will always be a way to have it.

You can always record the movie with a video camera or screencapper and then transfer that file.
Then all limitations on the original file will be useless.
Disadvantages of this is of course quality.

And for music, you can record the audio you hear..

And if they don't allow software based recording, you can always have speakers and a line out or something.

The solution is for the entertainment industry to become a smaller and much less profitable industry. This is in the best interest of society.

Maybe you should get paid less for your work too. It's in the best interest of society.

best way imo is to have the program connect to the internet and be authorized every time. works fine with gaming or general applications like say, photoshop. would be annoying as fuck/impractical with media like music or movies.

Music companies have resorted to selling things like tshirts, or just things you can't electronically duplicate, in bundles with albums to encourage buying the actual thing. Online services like bandcamp also make it so easy to buy music (in Lossless format too, something companies like itunes have been too dumb to duplicate) that people don't see piracy as such an easy alternative anymore.

Either way companies have come out of denial and accepted that piracy will happen, sometimes using it to an end to inexpensively increase the popularity of a product.

This. Works great for games and software, although it would be hella annoying on things like movies.
