Developers for the jailbreak have their 5.1.0 jail broken but there hasn't been an official release yet. Chances are, it will be a while.

so should i try to d/l the one off youtube?

and how do u know when theres an official release? is there like a official website?

No. Don't buy any either. Yes pod 2g's blog can keep you informed when an official release happens.
