i live in Wisconsin and yes! we have the four seasons here...and it sucks!
but seeing how nice the weather outside today, i'm planning on building a yard fence on the other side of my house...
i have looked through all the state/zone laws on building a yard fence already.....but i need help on the wood and other materials..

i need to know what is the best kind of wood to use?
it has to last for few years and has to be good to tackle our for seasons here....mostly freezing weather and snow. <_<

and in your opinion, which store is the best place to buy them? Home Depot or Menards?

thank you guys! :)

I'm in ohio and we ended up using 8 foot treated 3/4 or 5/8ths deck boards cut in half and put nice lil notch on both sides of them to make a nice little design for the top.

I live in Mayville, WI & just use your normal 4x4 treated lumber... Unless you want a more nice looking fence and animal/rodent proof then I'd use cedar. But for cost efficiency I use simple green treated shit.

I used to work in a lumber yard.

Are you looking to buy pre-fab panels and simply install/cement the posts in and put up the panels in between? This is by far the quickest way to do it.
Or are you looking to stick-build the fence panels yourself. There are so many different designs you can go with based on what you like. Something more private, something more open, etc...

For the posts I would recommend pressure treated 4 x 4 posts, make sure you dig and cement them in and make sure they line up square. Nothing worse than spending all that money on a fence and its out of square. Then use cedar lumber for whatever you decide on the fence design/panel.

I would not recommend home depot. Try and find a local lumber store because most likely they are cheaper than the big box stores. I'm going off of experience when I say this - some fence panels home depot sold for 90 bucks were easily available for 60 at the same quality at many places.
