I imagine because it's smaller, more convenient, and also does sound.

That and it's capable of higher resolutions and it's a digital signal (you can buy a cheap cable and have it work the same as a $100 cable). Depending on settings and the tv you can really notice a difference in picture quality check out the wiki for hdmi to see some details.

Def all in ur tv brah. U could buy those diamond plated hdmi cords on amazon for a couple thousand. I hear they turn ur tv into a hologram. I know I would love to have Brad Pitt in my living room!

better quality audio. yep thats the only difference. unless you were using coaxial.

There's no reason to ever spend $100 on an HDMI cable unless you're seriously looking for one that can get a signal across your entire house. A 6-footer can cost you as little as like $4 if you go to Monoprice.com, and you can pay half that if you only need a 1.5-foot HDMI cable.

You were probably using DVI before. HDMI has sound but also only supports lower resolutions than DVI
