Why are so many people obsesed by life on other planets. Is it to learn from other types of intelligent life? What is it do we really need to learn?
These things we want to learn, can't we learn them here on earth, by ourselves?

By the way, no, humans are not alone in the universe. There are thousands and millions of other existing specices and guess what! They are even closer than you think.
Yes! They are here, on our own planet: earth. We can find millions of forms of life as intelligent as ourselves and sometimes even more.
What? More intelligent? Is he going crazy? No! Think about it: being intelligent doesn't mean being able to build supermachines or babylon towers. Being intelligent means being able to live in peace and harmony. Without harming anyone or anything. Is that right?
Take a look at nature: everything is perfectly organized and so simple at the same time. Yes! Look at horses: observe how they live. And cats: observe how they feel everything. And dolphins: observe how they behave and communicate. And even ants: observe how they all work together.
Don't you see the point I am talking about? Intelligence is everywhere. It only depends on how you look at it.

So finally, why are so many people obsesed by the idea of finding life elsewhere else ? Why do they always need to search somewhere else? Why don't they finally start trying to understanding how things work here? If there would be a perfect place to learn about life, it would definitely be here, on earth and nowhere else. Thank you!

people look for the sake of knowledge. it doesn't matter if its advanced life or not because they simply want to know if life exist on other planets/moons etc.

you idea of what intelligence means makes no sense.

we know plenty about life on our own planet and there are more people studying life on the planet than life off the planet. so whats your point?

we understand plenty about how life works on our planet. do we need to know how every little insignificant insect works before we venture out into space? absolutely not.

life is never simple.

So, are rocks and trees intelligent too? Observe how they are in harmony with their environment.

Err, because it's interesting? What more reason do you need to try to study something?

its all about peace and harmony man. OP is obvious a boring stoner.

how the hell does anyone come to the conclusion intelligence=living in peace and harmony.

Laughed pretty hard at this thread.

You have failed to grasp the concept of acquiring knowledge OP.

Besides, anything that's going to give us a better understanding of the workings of our world is assuredly beneficial.

Wrong. Living in harmony with the Earth is useless. The Earth will not last forever and humans need to look beyond it and try to find ways to survive on other planets. That is the only way humans can prevent their own extinction.
