Kinda curious as to what purpose these could be used for myself.

I didn't read anything about it but,
- do they need any of those external lights/sensors to properly work?
- how are they controlled?
- could they use a GPS system or satellite (innacurate as these are), to go on such tight operational flying style?

Pretty early in the vid (0:05 or so) they show the upper half of the room. Running along it is a bunch of sensor equipment.

My assumption is they are programmed to do their little dance, and are given the signals to do so through the field given by the equipment.

So pretty much they are useless outside.
I can see however a good application to use these, in conferences, meetings, concerts, shows, debates, or any place indoors where a lot of people will meet for some reason and have them carrying cameras in a tactical movement to closely cover the entire space with "eyes" against supposed terrorist attacks or any other threats.

They could also be used in large public spaces like airports where they fly through a tactical path in order to cover the entire airport.

I can envision a headstrong general pining about a satellite array for his Skynet army
