What you guys think. Pretty interesting. Watched a couple of the TED videos, pretty cool.
Long story short, people who play video games are the ones who can save the world.

Haha obviously it will never come true because people will never associate video games with productivity. But if you think about it...

It's false productivity, however.

You can be king of the world in WoW and still live in a pile of your own, welfare paid for garbage.

A handful of success stories isn't going to overturn her astounding 5.9 millions years of game play.

Yes but the ability to trust and work with people you dont know.
The determination, focus and problem solving abilities that get built?

That's easy to do on an online game. Ask anyone.

The difficult part is learning to trust and work with people in a real life setting. To be able to properly converse, convey your ideas, feelings, etc.

The anonymity of the internet will not help to foster these skills.

So spending thousands of combined ours a week on the computer with a set group of 20-30 people (or however many people are on a raid in wow) doesnt build some form of trust?
It doesnt show you how to build strategies to fix problems. Doesnt show you how to cooperate with random people and set aside differences to accomplish one universal goal

I never said it wouldn't build trust amongst the group you are accustomed to playing with online. I said it's a terrible way to develop the skill in the real world.

Having successful raids doesn't import a successful business deal with Nikon into the heads of the players.

Besides, a lot of the people that play online games become very biased about whom they play with. Ever called someone or been called a noob? Even been excluded from a group due to you being the new guy?

Let's not forget that those "skills" are also developed with online gamers.

There would definately still be a hierarchy like we have now, however I just feel it would be a more productive accomplishing hierarchy because you have people out to solve problems, not self interests (even thought its impossible to not look out for ones own self interests)

A huge part of gaming is self interest!

Why do you think these people go on these raids/hunting? So they can get what they want for their own character.

Believe you me, it can be very cutthroat for some gear D=
