Our scientists go to the ocean floor to study deep sea life forms. If humans had the means to travel to other planets and we found relatively primitive lifeforms you can bet your ass we'd be studying them too.

That being said, I strongly doubt aliens have actually been here and are fucking with some rednecks.

Yeah, but you'd think that with the technology to travel here from wherever they have the means to be much more subtle about their investigations.
