I'm in college, and I share a house with 4 other people. I however do not take my studies as seriously as my fellow housemates, and while most people are hoome studying I am playing xbox live. I've noticed that (obviously) the more people using the internet the shittier my connection (again, obviously). While most routers say that the more expensive they are, the better they work. What kind of router (wireless) would you guys recommend I use?

You could have the best router in the world and it wouldn't increase the total up/down rate that your ISP is allowing you to have.

If you buy a more expensive router, your ISP will know and increase your internet speed appropriately.

Sometimes a router could be your bottleneck. What are your up/down speeds from your isp?

hmmmmmmm ... I wouldn't think so. It's all about choosing the plan that you can/want to afford.

If you have a wireless router, then you may have to choose your password wisely to avoid connecting the whole neighborhood to your router.

Even cheapo routers have QoS or quality of service settings. Is your xBox wired or wireless? Either way it will work. Just google for a QoS settings guide. It'll basically prioritizes the packets that have to do with Live over their homework, etc.

This, you can also spilt the bandwidth equally between each user, so the speed will be consistant.
