seems like there would be a lot of room for error shooting a giant laser/microwaves back to earth. like wouldnt it be easy to miss or plane fly through it or something

I'd imagine that asteroids would be a pretty large problem...

I wonder why energy companies dont use that method to transfer energy instead of having to build power lines and such
