whats different about this comet vs all the other ones? and whats the big fuss about it?

It's wrought with conspiracy.

Some people think that when it's at a certain alignment with Earth, it causes massive earthquakes.

Some people think Elenin is (for a lack of better words) a destroyer of worlds.

It's going to come within 0.5 AU (~46 million miles) of Earth. Sure, that sounds like a huge distance, but that's still really close when we're thinking about astronomical distances. However it's still not close enough to actually affect us.

You know conspiracy nuts. They'll latch onto absolutely anything they can to take it as confirmation of their favorite End Of Days prophecy.

i think i seen something a few years ago about it "passing thru the keyyhole" to get pulled enough by earths gravity to put it in a path to hit us next time

im not certain that it was comet elenin but it could have been. the fear of the commet is that it might come close enough to us so our gravity will change its trajectory around the sun by a small margin making it cross earths own trajectory around the sun, wich would make it hugely mor likely to hit us in the future.

i believe that one is the asteroid apophis that might affect us in 2029 if it passes the keyhole area in 2013

The History Channel has some pretty good horror flicks for sure

If we're still alive in 12,000 years on its next approach, we can worry about it then. However, Elenin is a comet. Comets are pretty much dusty ice balls, and Elenin is a small comet, at that. It's not a global killer even if it does hit Earth.
