I was wondering when this would pop up. They were saying that it usually erupts within a year after Eyjafjallajokul, and I think its been about a year now.

But apparently Katla is 10x bigger.

What is the major significance of potential eruptions? What's the scale for damage? I imagine the expected result wouldn't be climatological problems for the area, but idk. Mostly infrastructure + maybe some nasty dust/ash fallout? or is there potential for a lot of civilian loss? idk the details of the "local" population and how bad the eruptions could be, but it sounds like it must be fairly big.
