should i get an ati video card and 3 ~20" moniters with ~5800x1080 resoutlion or get an nvidia video card and wait for a ~20" glasses-free 3dtv? both options would cost about the same price with the same fps in games.
which do you think would be better for gaming? competiteve gaming? functionality? overall entertainment value?

edit: i shouldnt say "wait for a ~20" glasses-free 3dtv" there;s one already available but it's $3000.. i mean wait for it to be mass marketed so the price with be more affordable like $700 for a 20"

3d is a terrible choice, there are numerous claims that it cause all kinds of eye and brain strains, not to mention being entirely unnecessary.

yeah i watched a 3d demo with the glasses for literally 60 seconds and when i took them off i felt really dizzy and had some sort of motion sickness. but i have to admit 3d looks amazing and im willing to strain myself if i dont have to wear those goofy glasses. really both arent a great choice i know. i could just go with one normal moniter and probably save myself a headache.

i guess ill go with 3 moniters for now and get a glasses free 3d moniter for gaming or movies when they dont cost so much. 3d will be unnessary when they find a way to add depth to an already 3d image through software, right now it can only be done by hardware but im sure theyll figure out an algorithm or something and call it "virtual 3d" and it will work on regular moniters.

Physically impossible. You need to have left/right eye view and distinction to have the effect of depth. Think of a line, then imagine a triangle with a segment of the line as its base. Now imagine the top point of it is one of your eyes. Now draw another triangle, with the same segment as its base, with the point slightly to the side of the first. This is your other eye. Notice the difference in length of the two triangles? Without this difference, there is no depth perception. Hold your hand up to your face, with one eye open. Close that eye, and open the other. Your hand appears to move. By displaying a series of images, left eye/right eye in turn, of your hand in each position and shuttering off the other eye, it tricks your eyes into thinking they're looking at the same object from two viewpoints and thus 3d. Without a way to separate the two viewpoints you can't do it. You either need glasses (passively polarised or active shutter a la Nvidia 3dvision) which 'close' each eye in turn while displaying the correct image for the open eye, or a monitor that can 'target' each eye (glassesless).

3d from a driver level is what Nvidia's 3d vision already is. It takes the depth data already in the scene thanks to the 3d engine, and generates the two viewpoints. You can do it with pretty much any game, no matter whether the developer programmed it in. No way to do it on a regular monitor without glasses, because you cannot deliver distinct images to each eye without some shutter.
