They will never let any one know about it coz it will cause chaos between religious people, stupid hippies and some other simply retarded people. I am defiantly not gonna go all mental about it.. i just think it would be quite cool to see some aliens even if its simple bacteria. I do believe that this shit exist even with out any proof.
I find it quite interesting watching all of them conspiracies when i am baked.. but i will never believe that we have been visited by aliens and that government hiding alien space ships in area 51 and other places with out any solid proof.

There is most likely a bigger chance of extraterrestrials finding us than vice versa. I believe they already have, personally.

Theres only a few reaons why they wouldn't contact us though.

Either it was a long time ago and we were so primitive there was no use contacting us, or they have found another species like us, uplifted them and it went horribly wrong (Disease and war probably)

Other wise why wouldn't they make contact and uplift us?

@OP, they'd definitely tell people, and nobody needs proof to know aliens exist, there is obviously life in the galaxy other than us. You'd be pretty stupid to argue that. Theres probably many planets in the exact same position and has the exact same atmosphere as us.
