It's wonderful to see them again! It's hard to believe that 13 years have passed already

It's almost hard to believe how many have emerged since this morning. So far all I've seen is females though... I guess the males and females emerge at different times?

For those of you that don't know of this fascinating creature then here is some material:

For the record, I live in the southern area of Illinois.

Understandable.

I love them though. They are beautiful little creatures and everything benefits from their return (except our ears of course).

Yeah, my neighbors have some sort of tree they like.

Non stop buzzin all day here in summertime is quite irritating lol.

Well, when you take into account the sheer number of them, I think any tree is a tree they will like XD

This. It's the first thing that comes to mind when I think about the time that I have spent in Florida.

I suppose I am the only one that loves those little buggers :(

Sure they are noisy, but the positive impact they have on local ecosystems cannot be denied.

I didn't read the wiki stuff because it's too long. Can you sum up the bonuses?

Local animals gorge themselves on them. Birds for example.

Even creature on the ground, such as beetles, benefit from them during their die off.

Also, their bodies will degrade and supplement the top soil with vital nutrients.
