@OP, you'll get a solenoid wrapped around a magnet. The solenoid makes a field which will be superimposed on the field made by the magnet, which will, as has been said, alter the overall force field in a manner dependent on the direction of current flow and the orientation of the magnet.

but to be very simple about it ill break it down really easy for ya.

the gold- just helps in conducting electricty. when wrapped around the magnet its actually wrapping it in a coil. when electricity is passed through the coil a magnetic field is made. this is the bases of a an electromagnet.

when you turn on your electromagnet all that will happen is the direction of the magnetism will either counteract the opposite direction of the magnet or it will go along with it making it stronger.

of course if you look at the universe and the way it works it is totally impossible to have a perpetual motion machine. it is just possible to try to make it as energy effecient as possible to help conserve energy.
