You might be able to pick up a Canon Rebel for that. They're pretty decent.

Probably the Canon Rebel XS ($490 on BH Photo) for the body + a lens kit. If you know someone who's willing to sell a cheap lens, you maybe can get the T1i body.

Look Around for a Digital SLR that has good Megapixel range and Live View on the Screen :)

My Olympus is about 6 years old, and they did not have the Live Screen Technology for SLR's at that time that were anywhere near affordable :(
