They serve no function in the planet’s ecosystem, and no other species has survived so long while in such fundamental disagreement with observable reality. If I wasn’t such an ardent believer in secular materialism, I’d wager this is really troubling Darwin in the afterlife.’

I think a proper explanation is that Creationists tend to select other Creationists, perpetuating this ignorance across generations. In other words, in the eyes of some females, it is evolutionarily disadvantageous to actually have a firm grasp on reality, while in the eyes of intelligent females, that same trait is evolutionarily advantageous. Consider it Genetic Drift, where traits (e.g. intelligence) can have natural (or in this case, self-imposed) variability, and since there are both males and females that possess one trait or the other, lack of possession of intelligence isn't really a disadvantage when it comes to reproducing.

In other words, stupid people will be able to breed with other stupid people, so that stupidity will not be eliminated by natural selection alone.

*facepalm* What each report and article fail to account for is the fact that evolution exists and is proven in every day life. For instance, eye color. The darker colors are adapted to keep more of the suns damaging light OUT of the eye in order to protect the rods and cones. Hence, the areas that experience sun year round (areas near the equator) have darker colors. The lighter colors allow for more light to pass into the eye allowing us to see just the same in a different environment (arctic regions, Scandinavia).

Now, I know some troll is going to roll through here and say he has brown eyes and lives in Siberia or something. My response to him is so? The world has changed with networking and sea trade. We have developed sunglasses and other means to keep sun out. Go back a few centuries and you will see the genetic evolved roots I am speaking of.
