We set up our own cultural barriers and isolate ourselves from the rest. Would it not be ok for us to find an universal language? And why has it not been done, does it not make sense or is it unnecessary?

Besides U.S we are pretty much all with the metric system...

speaking the same language won't make you think the same and its not even close to the top of the list we as a species need to accomplish.

Lol, well how do you suppose we get all nations to agree on what language to accept? Every country will say their own because they do not want to have to learn another language.
Although most countries teach English in Europe, spreading that to places like Africa and Asia would be much harder.

Language is not at all the only thing keeping us apart. There are huge cultural differences between us.
