hello everyone here is my dilemma.

So I learned how to access the router through the gateway default ip on my laptop which is connected to my father's network to see if it was possible to block my little sister's ipod from using the internet. I know I could've just changed the security key but if she ends up finding it out well it's too tedious to change it again. As far as I could see it didn't seem possible... well since I first accessed it on my laptop my father asked me about it and I showed him how to do it but it said that my ip was already managing the router so access was denied for my father. He wasn't happy.

what I decided to do was swtich my ipv4 with my dad's and that seemed to have worked at first because now his computer can access it... however all of a sudden neither of our computers can connect to the internet... once again, he wasn't happy. so I just switched it back and told him well just use the remote access address for now until I can figure out how to make it work and right after i switched it back the internet worked again. The funny thing is that both computers said internet access however when we opened our browsers they couldn't connect to internet bc of error etc... I tried googling this but apparently I don't understand much about this... can anyone shed some light on the situation? does it have anything to do with the ipv6 or the dns server?

please help...Thanks

I have had a similar problem before, make sure after you reset the security key, you also reset your modem and basically renew the connection. It can be quite picky.

If possible, just stick with a basic key that only you and your dad know.

Reset the router back to factory default and recreate the wireless network with the same SSID (aka the wireless network's name, and remember that capitalization counts) and password.
