no. 40,000 years? do you realize how long that is? there is speculation that they were off by 140 years or so, ive heard 2150 used alot. the wiki arcticle is very informative:

2012 is another Y2k. If you are dumb enough to believe it the first time you're dumb enough to believe it a second time and in a few more years there will be another apocolyptic scare and the cycle will continue.
