Just trying to find out what's the best website to use. The only ones I've heard advertised on TV are etrade, and scottrade. They have $9.99 and $7 trading, respectively. I found one called Tradeking with cheaper trades ($4.95) but I'm a little concerned because I haven't heard much about it, and I'm always paranoid about dealing with websites I don't recognize. Does anyone here use Tradeking, or what site would you suggest? I really couldn't find a better section this would fit in, so I put that here. (: Ty for any help.

you can trade on etrade for 7.95 per trade as well if you make enough trades/quarter i believe. also if you make > 30 trades per calendar month you can use their power etrade pro.

i havent looked into scottrade at all and what it all offers, also there is td ameritrade and a few other popular ones.

as far as tradeking goes, i havent heard of it either

/e etrade - 150 trades/qrt = 7.99 per trade.

I did a little more research on TradeKing and, though it is cheaper, I have found people complaining how the website is slow and unreliable and they have lost money because of that. Scottrade has a great reputation for customer service, and I haven't heard any complaints about the website. Add to that the fact that it's slightly cheaper than alternatives at $7 a trade, and only $500 to open an account, I'm sold.

Ended up opening one at Scottrade. Well haven't opened it yet but it's pending. Wish me luck o.O

unless you know what you are doing you shouldn't bother with the stock market.

Sorry, but just because someone has never bought stock before, does not mean that they should never give it a try. I have been working and going to school, and I've saved up a lot of money over the last year. I have money to spare (I don't really spend a lot), and I'm not one of those people who one day just decided to buy stock thinking he could get rich overnight either. I am going to buy a few shares of some companies I like, and think might continue to grow in the next 10 or 15 years. Maybe my investment will make some money over that time, maybe not, but I wouldn't invest if I didn't understand the risks involved, and I wouldn't invest money I couldn't afford to lose (:

i meant it in the way that don't do it if you have absolutely no idea how it works at all regardless of whether or not you've bought before.

Oh, well I completely understand your concern. I hate to hear stories about people who invest their life savings into stocks when they have no idea how it even works. I have done my research however (I've spent the last month when I've had time reading up on all the terms and procedures, and finding out everything I can about investing), I'm never one to make a hasty decision.
