I have used Norton for 5 years and never had a problem but the other day I let my subscription run out and in between installed AVG. After biuying and installing Norton 4.0 my DVD/CD-RW and my CDrom both quit reading disks, the computer still recognized them and device manager said they were working but even the brand new Norton install disk could not be read. In explore the screen just came up blank. In the process of trying to find a fix for that I discovered that service pack 3 is out and support for 2 is almost at an end. So I ran windows update.....and internet explorer could not open the web page. So I played with the firewall settings and even tried turning it off to no avail. Then I went to a live chat session with Norton support and they uninstalled 360 and downloaded it online to reinstall. When that did not help the tech said Norton did not cause it contact the computers supporrt service. So I tried to do that and my browser opened for like 5 seconds and then just disappeared. Now I can not access anything through my browser but I spent to long reading a help page in 360 and it popped up with a link to live chat and I clicked on it and it opened a chat session the tech's first advice was to uninstall norton and reinstall.
HOW THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO DO THAT WITHOUT A CDROM OR ACCESS TO A BROWSER?
If anyone has any useful information I welcome it gladly and If it gets my computer back online I will donate all my FG...all $67.57 :] Yes I am that broke in RL right now or I would just take the stupid thing and get it repaired. The only good thing is the crappy computer I bought my mom for $125. on eebay did not get infected (knock on wood)
Please skip the sarcastic remarks about using Norton to begin with the computer classes I've taken were at a community college 5 years ago. Whatever information I haven't forgoten is obsolete by now anyway. And telling me I should have used something else will not help me. Plus my kids don't need to see thier mother throwing a fit and crying like a lil kid.
