if we encountered alien life forms, how would we communicate? I thought about it and I thought we might use math to communicate.

because if it is universally true that 1 + 1 = 2, we could build off that concept

i dont know maybe im just thinking out loud

Now I'm not quite sure if many would even want to communicate with us except of the ones we do not want. But who knows

I refer to the good, because that is what im a part of

math based has always been the popular answer for this. ofc idk how screaming math at someone would be a good conversation :O

lol

no but if both species understood that 1 + 1 = 2, we could further try to find similarities

ya but i personally wouldn't know how to explain that to someone with a different language on this planet let alone something with an even more complex language. hopefully when the time comes we'll be able to use some kind of device to do this.

thats why you would leave it to the scientists and mathmaticians

lol i wouldn't be comfortable doing that either. i mean as "universal" as math is claimed to be we still have no idea if lets say the species we run across could hear or see or have nerve ending but communicated telepathically or something. i mean really humanoid being is way too much to expect.

I suppose it depends. Are we talking about a race of et's that are technologically superior to us? If we came in contact with these type of beings the logical assumption would be they have figured out our language. As for a technologically inferior species I would again assume that if we have the technology to find them, then we have the technology and the means to communicate with them.

How would you communicate with a person of another language?

Through signs and gestures (granted there close to us).

Otherwise Binary and logic would be the most effective way though any form of communication can be taken the wrong way.
