actually this is possible, the nice thing is that light travels a bit faster than the debris (we get and exact difference in speed by its redshift, kind of like the doppler effect except in light ), we will have plenty of warning (centuries). the star could have blown up up to 3 millenia ago, we will see the explosion when the light gets here and do the math to figure out when the debris will reach us.

when stars blow up they cause incredible effect on surrounding systems. we can see supernova remnants that stretch across galaxies...

Earth is not going to last forever. Supposedly, in 4 billion years or so the sun will become so big it will engulf the earth (if I remember correctly.

But anyways, what the article is suggesting seems plausible. I mean a solar flare from the sun could even wipe us out. It's possible, but not likely.

But hey I'm a Christian, I don't believe in these theories, so what do I know?
