I have a ti89 titanium. It does not lose its setting when I replace the aaa batteries. There is a second battery that looks more like a watch battery that is supposed to retain your settings while the regular batteries are being changed. In fact I can change the batteries in the middle of a calculation and it will still be there when I put them back in. Maybe you should look into changing the "watch" battery.
Also as far as battery life goes, I use mine almost every day and I have to change the batteries about once every 2-3 months. My only complaint is the low battery indicator does not seem to give you much warning. If you see it lit up, finish what you are doing and change the batteries immediately IMO, you don't have long!
As far as the "watch" battery goes, I could probably change it.
But mine is not a titanium. Its an older model, and there is no battery indicator.
And its not that it cuts off while in use, its that when im not even using it and its turned off like overnight or something, ill wake up and try to turn it on and the batteries will be dead and it wont cut on.
