I was wondering..

If you walk with the same speed as the earth rotates around it self, wouldn't you in theory cover a way larger distance if you walked against the rotation than if you walked with the rotation ??

You were right, this is a retarded question.

To clarify, you're not going to be able to walk anywhere near the speed of Earth's rotation.

If you walked at the rotational velocity of the earth in the opposite direction, you would remain along the course of Earth's orbit around the sun- i.e an ellipse. If you walk with the rotation, your path around the sun would overlap itself and no longer be a simple ellipse, but rather periodically overlap itself. The ellipse would be smaller.

You are already moving at the velocity the earth is turning. You are attached to it aren't you? However your frame of reference puts you at stationary assuming you're sitting at your computer. Walking at X speed will never be faster or slower depending on the direction you walk, as you aren't levitating. The same is not true for planes, thats why traveling from east to west gives different flight times than west to east.

the jet streams play a much bigger role in this than the rotation of the earth

and theres no such thing as a stupid question, just stupid people

questions are asked to learn what you didnt already know, not to know whether or not it is dumb or not
