this/last months popular science (with astronaut on cover) has arcticle about ion engines and how we will have technology to power them with nuclear reactor within 10 years. a trip to mars would take 39 days rather than years. dont get me wrong russia is a serious contestant in the never ending space race.

Actually the fact of a nation soon surpassing the US in both science and economy, is worth thinking about...

Alot of ppl, especially the americans, believe that their nation will forever be #1... But looking back in time, so said the romans, egyptians, chinese etc... Due to the changes in our day society, the US might last WAY longer than eg the roman empire, but SOMEDAY (might be soon) the US WILL be surpassed by someone
