Overview

Anencephaly- is the absence of a large part of the brain and the skull.

Symptoms
  • Absence of the skull
  • Absence of the brain (cerebral hemispheres and cerebellum)
  • Facial feature abnormalities
  • Heart defects

Prognosis

This condition usually causes death within a few days.

Bioethically speaking - Would you have an abortion when you find out 20 days into the pregnancy that you have a baby with anencephaly? or would you let it be born to die within a day or two?

Yes. Hopefully I do not offend anyone, but i would rather raise a healthy baby with little to no complications. Raising an unhealthy baby with many complications leads to a heavy load of stress, a very high risk of relationship failure between the parents, and finally, with all this built up, the parents can do a poor job raising the child.

In this case, why have a baby whom which is going to die within a few days. It's just more of a heartbreak seeinig the baby born and seeing it with you're own eyes only to know it is going to die in a few days.

I would abort it when I found out, yes. Of course it wouldn't just be up to me, it takes 2.

Definitely! Why would you let that poor child live just to die a few days after birth??

It's more about the kid anyway. If I were in his shoes, would I want to live that kind of life? No. I don't think anyone would want to live that kind of life.
